historyIn 1850, Colonel William F. Wheeler built the “Peach Grove Farm” for his son, Isaac Van Duzer Wheeler. It is speculated that the Colonel (who fought in the War of 1812), wanted to impress the family of Isaac’s bride, Phoebe Bull, a descendant of the legendary pioneer settlers, Sarah Wells and William Bull.

Constructed in the Greek Revival architectural style prevalent from 1820-1860, the home’s entrance boasts classical round columns and a wide portico. The impressive central hall, about twelve by thirty-seven feet, features faux marble walls created by early artist, George Clinton.

Polished wide-plank hardwood flooring, soaring 11-foot ceilings, massive moldings, and original double-hung paned windows recall an era of refined elegance. The home was one of the first in the Hudson Valley to have electricity and running water. In 1850, the Orange County Fair awarded the farm first prize.
